A Beginner’s Review of Scrivener

Hi everyone! It’s been a few months since I’ve been active in my writing. I took a break after July Camp, and once I was ready to hop back into my novel, we got swamped at work. While I’m not actively writing just yet, I did make a change in my writing process.

One of the prizes for reaching my goal at the July Camp was a discount on Scrivener. I’ve heard awesome things about this program, and I see it everywhere, so I wanted to give it a try before my discount expired (at the end of October). I went ahead and purchased the program and have spent part of today going through the tutorial and importing my novel so it’s ready when I get back to it.

I had a few people ask for my opinion of the program on Twitter, so I’m going to post a very preliminary and basic review from my experience so far. I haven’t dug in very deep, so please keep that in mind. Continue reading

Camp NaNoWriMo Final Update

The end of Camp was a busy week. I worked 11 days in a row, so I didn’t get much time off last weekend to do anything. This weekend involved board games, a farmers’ market, dinners, movies, friends, and family, so it’s been busy, as well. However, I have some exciting news! I was only about 3,000 words away from achieving my Camp goal, and I’m proud to say I have officially finished it! It’s currently 3:30am as I’m writing this post. I stayed up late so I couldn’t push off writing anymore. There was no way I was going to write 17,000 words and not finish the last 3,000.

I also hit another awesome milestone this weekend. My full word count on my WIP is now over 50,000! I officially have a novel! I never thought I’d make it this far, especially because I’ve given up and stopped writing so many times. Yet here I am! So here are my final Camp stats update for July!

Camp NaNoWriMo Week 3 Update

Week 3 was a busy week. The birthday celebrations from the end of Week 2 lasted into the beginning of Week 3, and shifting schedules at work with lots of fun stuff throughout the week left little time to actually write.

I got a little at the end of the weekend last week, but that was it. Week 4 also started out busy, but since it’s the last week, I’ll be working extra hard to fit in writing time. I’m so close to my goal that there’s no way I’ll let it slip by!

Camp NaNoWriMo Week 2 Update

Week 2 has officially come to a close, and with that, more stats to share! This week included a full work schedule, so I had a little less time to actually get into the writing, but I still managed to get some words on the screen and sail over my halfway point.

Week 3 weekend is going to offer even less time for writing with hubby’s birthday, high school reunion, and a Royals game. I’m down to about 1 day of writing with all of that. In addition, my schedule is shifting at work this week so that I’m going in on Friday, so I don’t foresee lots of words this week.

July beginning word count: 31,802

Then it was time to go back to work, and between get togethers and 10 hour shifts, I haven’t written since Monday, but it was still a successful first week!

Wyland, Llywelyn’s Pub, March 12, 2017

So my 30th birthday was this past Sunday, March 12. Through the crazy timing of fate, one of my favorite bands happened to be coming through Kansas City on that exact date, so that’s how I celebrated! We set up a birthday party and show at Llywelyn’s Pub in Overland Park, KS, and with Wyland playing, it was amazing!

I’m still exploring…

So, I got into photography because of a really great concert experience I had. I thoroughly enjoyed trying to get those amazing shots of the band with my phone camera, and while I did manage to get several, I realized I could do so much better with an actual camera. I went out and bought my first, a Canon Rebel T5, and started shooting. I had no real direction other than concerts, so I focused on that starting out. Continue reading

New Beginnings Dog Rescue

I’m finally getting my pictures posted from the shoot I did for New Beginnings Dog Rescue! This was almost a year ago, so all of these dogs have been adopted, but make sure to check their website to see what other animals are up for adoption. This group relies solely on foster families, as they don’t have a facility to house all of the dogs in. That means they bring their adoptable pets to  PetSmart in Olathe, KS in order to find forever homes. These events happen most Saturdays at 11am-2pm, so be sure to stop by and meet the wonderful foster families and their adorable, adoptable pups! Continue reading
