Throughout the year, 96.5 The Buzz will put on some amazing free shows. I don’t know how they do it, but the bands they book are always so wonderful! Afentra’s Prom is one of those concerts. Not only do we get an excuse to dress up in formal wear, but we also get to listen to amazing music. This year’s Prom featured Vance Joy, The Kooks
, Joywave
, and homegrown artist Hembree. It was hosted at the Midland on May 1, 2015, and it was perfect!
As usual, I listened to the opener, Hembree, well before the show. They became yet another opening band that I fell in love with, as well! Their music is wonderful, and they’re great live. The band members that I met at Prom are super nice, as well, which is always a plus. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this band again!
Joywave was the second band to take the stage, and they completely wowed me! I’d heard a couple of their songs before, but hadn’t really dug into their music. They really are a great band that I plan on looking more into now. I’m a huge fan of super energetic shows, and Joywave certainly did not disappoint! They had everyone jumping, crouching, and cheering the entire set. It was a blast! I highly recommend seeing them live!
The Kooks are another band I haven’t really listened to outside of the songs played on the radio. They played some songs that I didn’t even realize were theirs, and these surprises made it an even more fun show. They are very much loved in Kansas City, and the crowd certainly showed that love throughout the show. It was definitely a fun one to attend.
Vance Joy was the headliner for this show, and for good reason. He has a way of making you fall in love with not only his music, but him as a performer, as well. His amazing voice is mesmerizing, and he’s lovely to watch on stage.
Overall, the Buzz put on yet another amazing concert this year, and I’m glad to have been able to attend!
These photos were taken with my iPhone 6. Some are a little blurry/grainy. I’ll eventually get my camera to one of these concerts!
